Brick by Brick

I started this website a few years ago to celebrate and track the projects that I was doing on my house. I am doing a new kind of building these days - less hammer and nails and more personal and community centered.

In February of 2026, just over 4 years after I bought the little white house, I sold it to a friend, packed my life into 200lbs of luggage and boarded a one way flight to Adelaide, South Australia.

I’m transforming this space into a place where I can write my thoughts and keep record of all that this journey.

The previous pages about all things US house will be staying - they bring me great pride and joy to look back on.

You can always renovate and sometimes you have to totally rebuild - one brick at a time.

Cheers, LP

Hi I’m Laura

I like to make stuff. I’ve made furniture, quilts, other websites - you name it I can probably find a way to build it.

Growing up I was always playing or making lincoln logs in my backyard, playing with bricks or serving as the designated flashlight holder on my Dads DIY home projects.

When I am not tinkering with my 100 year old house, browsing pinterest for new ideas or enjoying the sunshine I work full time as a service dog trainer.

I raised a service dog puppy my senior year of college and was fortunate enough to be hired by that same organization when I graduated. This launched my career working with assistance dogs.

I proudly graduated from the University of Tennessee - Knoxville in 2020 with a degree in Animal Science and a minor in Psychology. I am a Vol for Life to my core.

I learned everything I know about home improvement from my Dad, my Grandfather, the books that they have given me, This Old House TV Show and the DIY network. My Mom is my chief design consultant and helps me have cohesive vision for a space.

I am so happy that you are here.

Welcome, LP the Builder
